The US and China on Tuesday introduced a new round of sanctions against North Korea during a meeting of the UN Security Council in response to the reclusive government’s test of a nuclear weapon last month, The Wall Street Journal reported. The resolution enforced existing sanctions and implemented some new measures, including intensive monitoring of North Korea’s financial transactions and the activities of its diplomats abroads. The US and China agreed on the terms of the sanctions after three weeks of negotiations, said Susan Rice, the US ambassador to the UN. China has backed the last three sets of Security Council sanctions against North Korea.
