China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine has announced an immediate ban on hog and pork product imports from Mexico and parts of the US amid rising concerns over the global spread of swine flu, AFP reported. The bans on American pork products cover the states of Texas, California and Kansas. AFP quoted a health ministry spokesman as saying China had not yet experienced any cases of swine flu, but that it was “closely monitoring” for human cases. The ministry also issued a detailed statement outlining symptoms of the disease and encouraging the proper cooking of pork.
