China bears brunt of global surge in cancer: WHO

China saw an alarming rise of new cancer cases and deaths in 2012 amid a global rise of the disease, with the country registering the most new cancer cases and deaths from four types of malignant tumors, South China Morning Post reported. In the latest edition of the World Cancer Report, China accounted for 3.07 million newly diagnosed cases, 21.8% of the global total. China also saw around 2.2 million deaths, around 26.9% of the world’s total death rate. However, China is still not among the countries with the highest cancer rates or highest mortality rates.
