China has been given the green light to build a US$5 billion city and industrial park in Belarus in order to create a trade bridge between the EU and Russia, Bloomberg reported. According to reports, the city will have enough accommodation for 155,000 and will partially open in 2020 with the second part of the development expected for 2030. The city will place Chinese businesses within 300 kilometers from the EU, as well as in a customs union with Russia and Kazakhstan. Belarus is looking for more trade partners as its relations with the West are strained after the EU and US imposed sanctions on the country’s leader for jailing political opponents.
