The British chancellor, George Osborne, will sign a deal this week that allows China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) to build nuclear power stations in the UK and have its reactor design approved by British regulators, Financial Times reported. The UK government will back CGN as a co-investor in EDF Energy’s planned new nuclear plant at Hinkley Point in Somerset. China’s involvement is seen as crucial if the US$22.4 billion project is to go ahead, which is a centerpiece of the UK government’s ambitions for a low-carbon economy.
