China plans to build a second aircraft carrier capable of carrying a larger fleet of fighter jets, Reuters reported, citing state media. Xinhua news service quoted Song Xue, deputy chief of staff of China’s navy, as telling a ceremony with foreign military attachés that China will have “more than one aircraft carrier” and “the next aircraft carrier we need will be larger and carry more fighters.” China currently has one aircraft carrier that was purchased from the Russian navy. Military experts consider it to be decades behind US carrier technology.
