China has orderd almost 1 million metric tons of grain from the US, the biggest purchase in 14 years, to "complement" domestic supply, Bloomberg reported, citing the US Grains Council. The Council’s manager of international operations Alvaro Cordero said the US can double or triple sales to China as the country strives to meet growing demand. According to the US Department of Agriculture, China recently bought 600,000 tons of US corn as Beijing moves to secure imports and cool prices that have risen 11% over the past six months. "As their economy grows, we foresee China will import (corn) consistently," Cordero said. "It needs to rely not only on its own production but also on alternative resources."
