A senior executive from General Motors dismissed a recently announced venture to bring Chinese vehicles to the United States, saying Chinese-made cars are not ready to compete in the US market. John Devine, GM's chief financial officer, told reporters at the Detroit Motor Show that China had a long way yet to go to make its cars as competitive as they need to be to survive the US market. Devine's comments came after New York-based Visionary Vehicles announced a venture last week with China's Chery Automobiles to begin selling a new range of cars in the US.
