Volkswagen AG’s China unit announced a vehicle recall on Saturday after the country’s state-run TV network aired a broadcast scrutinizing the quality of the carmaker’s direct-shift gearbox systems, The Wall Street Journal reported. Volkswagen China spokesman Christoph Ludewig said the company would continue to fully cooperate with all relevant authorities and would announce details of the recall in a later notice. China Central Television aired the broadcast Friday, World Consumer Rights Day, examining the gear-shifting problems of Volkswagen vehicles, as well as Apple’s customer service malpractices and misleading advertising from local drug companies.
