China said on Wednesday that it is severely concerned about North Korea’s threat to conduct a third nuclear test, Reuters reported. North Korea has stepped up its threatening rhetoric in response to more strict sanctions that were instituted after it tested a rocket in December. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said China opposes any behavior that may escalate tensions and supports denuclearization of the Korean peninsular. Chinese state-owned newspaper Global Times called for North Korea to pay a “heavy price” should it launch a third nuclear test. “The assistance it will be able to receive from China should be reduced,” the Global Times said.
