China ended its self-imposed ban on naval exercises with other countries,
conducting a security drill with Pakistan near Shanghai.
The two allies
engaged in joint coastline and deep-sea maneuvering exercises. The three-day exercises
involved 1,600 sailors and officers. Destroyers and anti-submarine helicopters were used
in the reconnaisance, search and rescue and patrolling exercises.
