China could clean up: ADB

China has the resources, but not the incentives to clean up some of its pollution problems, the South China Morning Post reported, citing Asian Development Bank experts. China need only invest about 2% of its annual GDP in pollution controls to effect a cleaner environment, but is currently investing only 1.3% and incurring pollution-related losses equivalent to 9-10% of GDP. After the US, China ranks second in the world in the emission of greenhouse gases, and is expected to rank first within ten years.
