China is on target to meet its full-year goal of 7 million car sales in 2006 after auto sales in the first 11 months of the year came in at a 25.5% premium on 2005, the South China Morning Post reported. The total of 6.45 million units sold between January and November, announced by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, also puts China on course to surpass Japan as the world's second-largest carmaker. Japan sold 5.85 million cars in 2005 to China's 3.97 million. General Motors, which has a joint venture with China's largest carmaker Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp, believes car sales in the country could reach as much as 7.3 million units this year.
