China defense ministry denies US hacking allegations

China’s Defense Ministry issued a blanket denial on Tuesday in its first response to hacking charges filed by US attorneys on Monday, The Wall Street Journal reported. The US has accused five Chinese military officials with hacking US companies for commercial gain. “Government and military had never taken part in any acts to steal commercial secrets via the internet,” Spokesman Geng Yansheng said in a statement on the ministry’s website. Also on Tuesday, China’s official Xinhua news agency said the Foreign Ministry had summoned Max Baucus, the US ambassador, to lodge “a solemn representation with the US side” over the matter.
