Beijing is sending at least four planes to Egypt to repatriate Chinese citizens stranded in troubled Cairo, state media reported. Over 500 Chinese nationals are currently awaiting rescue in Cairo airport, with another 2,000 mainland travelers possibly in need of assistance elsewhere in the country. Several other nations have issued travel warnings or chartered planes to bring their nationals home as demands for political change in the north African state escalated into violent demonstrations in various parts of the country over the past several days. The last time Beijing sent aircraft to rescue Chinese nationals was during the political unrest in Kyrgyzstan in June 2010.
