China expands RMB settlement trial to more countries

China will no longer restrict countries in which cross-border trade can be settled with renminbi, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing state media. "So long as a company in a particular foreign country is willing to accept it, we will actively support our trading company to use yuan to settle trades," said Luo Bochuan, who heads the Guangzhou branch of the People’s Bank of China (PBoC). China has pledged to expand the renminbi settlement program this year. Originally the program was restricted to companies in Guangxi and Yunnan trading with ASEAN members, but was expanded to include Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau and cities in the Yangze river delta, including Shanghai.
