China exports over 131m handsets in first 5 months

The Ministry of Information Industry (MII) announced Tuesday that China exported 130.98 million mobile phones in the first five months this year, up 26.5% from the same period last year, Xinhua reported (in Chinese). Domestic brand exports reached 16.953 million phones, about 13% of the total, up 49.6% from the same period last year. The figures indicated that CDMA mobile phones were mainly sold abroad. In the first five months of the year, 27.4 million CDMA mobile phones were exported, about 84% of the total, up 52.8% from the same period last year.
