China keeps lead in chip industry

According to a new report from research firm PwC, China has continued to outperform the rest of the world in the global marketplace for semiconductors.
In its report titled "China’s impact on the semiconductor industry: 2010 update report," PwC said China accounts for 41% of global semiconductor consumption and employs 25% of the total global semiconductor workforce. Those figures suggest that China is more efficient at supplying semiconductors than other countries. The report also shows that China continues to dominate electronic manufacturing and that the lead is increasing.
International Business Times reports that the Chinese workforce employed in the semiconductor industry has been growing at a rate of 10% for the past five years and now accounts for a quarter of the world’s total. But as labor demand increases, so does labor mobility. While China continues to offer some of the lowest labor costs in the world, these costs are expected to increase.
