China launched its previously announced investigation into Europe illegally dumping wine in the mainland market on Monday, Reuters reported. The move is widely seen as retaliation for the EU’s solar tariffs instituted against China last month. China’s Ministry of Commerce announced the launch Monday and said the investigation into whether European wine makers receive illegal subsidies or sell at below market price would last at least a year. The European Commission is disappointed with the investigation and will review whether China’s investigation is in line with WTO standards, which forbid tit-for-tat sanctions, a spokesman said.
