China launches yearlong auto safety review

August 28, 2026

Four Chinese government departments have launched a yearlong nationwide campaign to examine the production consistency and safety of motor vehicles, reports Caixin.

The effort is aimed at addressing safety risks linked to intensifying competition in China’s auto market, where aggressive cost-cutting and the rapid rollout of insufficiently tested technologies have fueled growing public concern.

The campaign, announced jointly by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the State Administration for Market Regulation, will focus on vehicle reliability, durability and the validation of new technologies.
