China may go through US courts to catch 'economic fugitives'

China may sue citizens suspected of committing economic crimes who have fled to the US, Reuters reported, citing a statement from Xu Hong, the director general of the Foreign Ministry’s Department of Treaty and Law. Xu said Beijing had tried to pursuade Washington to sign an extradition treaty, but the latter said it was “not ready”. One alternative, Xu said, “is to repatriate the relevant suspects through the mechanism of illegal immigration, the other way is to prosecute them in the United States, so the suspects can be tried under US law.”
