China Mobile Chairman and Chief Executive Wang Jianzhou said China Mobile is set to announce a mobile handset made by Nokia, the world’s largest handset maker by shipments, that runs on the locally developed third-generation mobile technology.
Note that Nokia’s performance in this area. It has been ducking, bobbing and weaving to avoid having to support the new standard. Now it looks as though it is cornered.
Wang Jianzhou said Nokia will begin supplying the dual-band handsets, compatible with global system for mobile communications technology and TD-SCDMA ‘very soon.’
In China, Korean electronics manufacturers LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics are the only foreign companies, so far, to supply TD- SCDMA handsets.
He also reiterated that China Mobile, the world’s biggest telecom operator by subscribers, is keen on investing overseas and is currently looking at telecom assets in emerging markets.
