China Mobile to test TD-LTE in 6 cities

China Mobile is expected to invest RMB1.5 billion (US$224.5 million) to establish TD-LTE trial networks in six cities covering a total of 3,060 base stations. The six cities are Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Xiamen, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
TD-LTE allows for a faster network. LTE specification provides downlink peak rates of at least 100 Mbit/s and an uplink speed of at least 50 Mbit/s. TD-LTE allows carriers to make use of the unpaired spectrum that many of them already own.
China Mobile has invited equipment suppliers to participate in the trial, including Huawei Technologies, ZTE, Datang Mobile, Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks and Motorola. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has designated the 2570-2620 MHz frequency band for the trial.
Telecom Paper reports that earlier this year, China Mobile and MIIT collaborated on a TD-LTE field test in Beijing with 11 equipment suppliers and 12 chip developers participating.
