The decision by actress Gong Li to become a citizen of Singapore sparked outrage online in China, AFP reported. The star of "Farewell My Concubine" received her new citizenship over the weekend, a move that required her to give up her Chinese citizenship. "Traitors like this don’t even love their own country. These people were only fake countrymen of ours. Let them slink off to other countries and die!" one person wrote on the popular online portal Sohu.com. Many others expressed support for the actress. Gong had previously served as a Chinese parliament delegate, but speculation that she was seeking foreign citizenship resulted in her being excluded from the list of delegates for 2008.
