China plans domestic oil price hike

Beijing will gradually raise its oil price rather than use imports to build up the country's strategic oil reserve, South China Morning Post reported. Zhang Guobao, vice-minister of the National Development and Reform Commission, acknowledged that China's oil prices were well below the global norm. Zhang rejected claims that the global oil price rise had been fed by China's increased consumption, saying that China imported only 6.3% of globally shipped oil in 2004.
