China said it plans to launch a total of 10 satellites into orbit in 2004, the most it has ever launched in one year. Included in launches this year will be the SINOSAT-II, designed as China's first entry in the international large-capacity communication satellite market. The satellite is designed to transmit audio and video signals to all of China and is equipped with anti-jamming technology. An initial test model will be launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in Sichuan province and has a planned 15-year mission life.
