China plans to boost digital publication industry

The General Administration of Press and Publication in China has rolled out a blueprint to boost the nation’s digital publication industry.
It sets out the goal for all publishers to offer digital publications to the market by 2020.
By the end of 2015, the entire revenue generated by digital publications should represent one-fourth of the total revenue of the publication industry.
The blueprint projects there will be around 20 major digital publication enterprises by the end of 2015, each of which will generate an annual turnover of over RMB1 billion (US$149.14 million).
China’s digital publication industry has taken off in recent years. In 2009, this industry generated revenue of RMB79.9 billion (US$11.9 billion), up 50.6% from the previous year.
A China Daily report said digital publications include internet periodicals, books and newspapers, internet games, VCDs, DVDs and other publications in digital form.
