China promises “strong” retaliation to US metal tariffs

China has vowed to retaliate to U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminium imports with “strong” measures, Bloomberg reports, as organisations voice their disapproval of President Trump’s protectionist direction.

This morning China’s commerce ministry said that it “resolutely opposed” the White House’s decision to add 25% tariffs on steel and 10% on aluminium imports, urging the United States to withdraw the measures immediately. The ministry added that the tariffs would “seriously impact the normal order of international trade.”

Following the signing of the new measures by President Trump this morning, China’s Iron and Steel Association also made public their disapproval on their blog.
