China Railway No.6 Group has won a US$350.57 million contract to build an urban railway system in Hanoi, according to Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment.
The company will design and build the 13.5-kilometer railway system and provide 52 railway cars within a period of five years, the ministry said in a statement.
CargoNews Asia reported that the railway, which will run from Hanoi’s downtown centre to Ha Dong district to the southwest, will cost $552.86 million to build. It did not report what trains would be supplied. China makes what is the world’s fastest train (see right) but that probably would not be totally suitable.
Most of the funds needed for the project come from soft loans from China.
