China is raising the level of production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or drones, in order to catch up with military aviation leaders the US and Israel, the Wall Street Journal reported. More than 25 different Chinese-made drones were displayed at the Zhuhai air show in southern China’s Guangdong province. China’s first concept UAV was unveiled at the air show just four years ago. The ramping up of scale and production of domestically produced drones has raised some concerns in the West. A recent US report noted that China is "developing a variety of medium- and high-altitude long-endurance unmanned vehicles, which when deployed, will expand the PLA Air Force’s options for long-range reconnaissance and strike."
