China runs internet security checks on IT products

China announced it would implement internet security checks on both foreign and domestic IT products that were used in systems that affect national security, South China Morning Post reported. Those who failed the checks would be banned from use on the mainland. The measure follows the US’s indictment of five PLA officers this week for hacking into US companies for trade secrets. These checks are generating anxiety among foreign technology vendors who are unsure which of their products will receive approval.
