[photopress:russiantrain.jpg,full,alignright]Russia, Germany and China will create a logistics company for container shipping before the end of 2006, OAO RZD President Vladimir Yakunin said at a press conference in Moscow on Friday.
Before we go any further let us get those initials OAO RZD into perspective.
The OAO is the equivalent of Inc. or Co. Ltd or whatever that shows a company is incorporated. So it is, for example, RZD Ltd.
RZD? Bit of arcane knowledge here. It stands for Российские железные дороги which is the state owned railway company in Russia. So OAO RZD is Russian Railways Ltd.

Creation of the logistics company would contribute to an increase in railway turnover from the central and northwest regions of China. He said that as a result, traffic would increase on the Trans-Siberian railroad.
He said, ‘The carrying capacity of the Trans-Siberian railroad could be exhausted. As a result of this, the burden on the Baikal-Amur route is growing.’
The Baikal-Amur route, he said, will carry up to 600 billion tonnes per kilometer per year by 2010 at the current pace.
