Commerce Minister Bo Xilai said China was ready to make a mark in framing global trade rules and expects the Hong Kong World Trade Organization meeting to achieve benefits for developing countries, reported state media. Failure could mean an impasse in global free trade and result in a disastrous revival of protectionism, he said. While China needs to defend its 600 million farmers, its tariffs on farm produce stand at 15.3% compared to the world average of 62%, Bo said.
