China signs landmark deal with Botswana

China signed a slew of economic and technical cooperation deals with Botswana on Sunday, Reuters reported. The Chinese delegation, led by China’s Vice President Xi Jinping, offered the country US$6 million in development grants. The two countries signed three cooperation deals, as well as a deal between the Botswana Power Corp and China Development Bank and Golden Concord Group. Other deals included financial projects linking the Botswana government and the Export-Import Bank of China. Botswana is the last stop on a tour of Africa for Xi, which has included Angola – China’s largest African trading partner – and South Africa. Botswana, the world’s biggest diamond producer, is attempting to raise its profile among Chinese investors.
