The Ministry of Information Industry (MII) said it was trying to draw up a set of national standards for China-made digital cameras, state media reported. Cao Jianhua, MII's director of science and technology, said it was too early to say when work on the new standards would be completed, but ruled out October. The standards aim at stemming production of shoddy products and making China more competitive with Japanese manufacturers. According to IDC data cited by state media, Sony, Canon and Olympus have 80% market share in China.
