China says that it is still trying to evacuate a small number of Chinese workers from Iraq in close coordination with the Iraqi government, Reuters reported, citing a statement from Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying on Thursday. Hua denied claims that the Iraqi government was not helping and said that the “vast majority” of China’s 10,00 workers in Iraq were in safe areas. She declined to confirm or deny reports that 1,000 workers were trapped at a power station and that the Iraqi army had turned some of them away as their bus approached Baghdad.
