India said China has surpassed Japan as its number one trade partner in the Northeast Asian region. E.V.K.S. Elangovan, minister of state for commerce and industry, told an India-China business conference in Delhi that Chinese companies were building highways supporting India's Golden Quadrilateral projects, supplying power plant equipment and working in other areas. Elangovan said there was still room for cooperation in other areas, singling out textiles, IT, healthcare and education. The Central Silk Board of India used the occasion, organized by the ministry, to sign a sericulture technology cooperation MOU with Yunnan Province.
