China’s 2010 foreign trade policy goal is to improve its trade balance while maintaining steady growth, state media reported. Ministry of Commerce spokesman Yao Jian said China’s trade surplus was expected to shrink by another US$100 billion this year; the General Administration of Customs announced a trade deficit of US$7.24 billion in March. "The trade deficit registered in March demonstrated expanding domestic demand accompanies by lukewarm demand in the international market," Yao said. He added that the deficit also proved that it was market supply and demand as well as other factors that decided trade balance and not just exchange rates.
