China’s media regulator published a new set of rules Wednesday tightening restrictions on the use of social media for news organizations, Bloomberg reported. The State Administration of Radio Film and Television said that employees or news organizations must get permission both to set up microblogs for professional purposes and to release any information acquired in the course of their duties. The new regulations also prohibit the publication of rumors, urge journalists to focus on positive aspects of a story and prohibit the publication of materials from freelancers, foreign media organizations, political groups and commercial organizations without state approval.
