China to file WTO chicken complaint

China will file a WTO complaint against US rules on chicken imports, Bloomberg reported. A statement posted on the website of China’s Ministry of Commerce called the rules "unfair and malicious," and that China "retains the right to take further measures." The US congress in 2007 stopped a proposed rule that would have allowed China to export cooked chicken products to the US. China says that it agreed to allow US chicken imports based on assurances that Chinese cooked poultry would be allowed into the US. China’s complaint would be the fourth it has filed since joining the WTO in 2001.
