China to go digital

The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television announced that it would switch its cable television broadcasts to digital technology by 2010. In a report detailing its future plans for TV broadcasting the ministry added that analog broadcasts would be phased out altogether by 2015. According to state media, 25 Chinese cities are currently operating digital cable TV on a trial basis and the majority of the country will have made the jump to digital broadcasts by 2008.
