China to interpret Hong Kong law

Following acting Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang's request to Beijing to resolve a dispute over the length of term for Hong Kong's next leader, the State Council said it has asked the National People's Congress Standing Committee to interpret the tenure rules. Tsang said a ruling by Beijing would help ensure a smooth election in July for the new chief executive who replaces Tung Chee-hwa, who resigned in March.
