China said on Monday it would end export tariffs on 81 categories of garments and textiles, making good on its vow to revoke those concessions if the EU and US were to impose restrictive measures on its exports which have soared since the end of a global quota regime in January. The EU on Friday formally requested talks with China over surging shipments of T-shirts and flax yarn, a move seen as a precursor to applying limits on these imports. The US had imposed quotas on Chinese-made trousers, underwear, shirts and other goods in mid-May.
