Food additives in fresh juices may soon be banned after China’s State Food and Drug Administration (SDA) released a set of draft regulations on the management of fresh juice in catering establishments, state media reported. The draft rules have been posted on the SDA’s website seeking public opinion. Under the SDA’s regulations, the use of recycled or rotten ingredients would be banned in the manufacturing of fresh juices – which the SDA refers to as edible beverages that are made of fresh fruits, vegetables, cereals or beans. The drinks would also be preserved in capped bottled and consumed in less than two hours after being manufactured. A number of other details pertaining to the people producing the drinks – such as wearing mouth masks and not employing staff with digestive infectious diseases – are also being considered.
