China is expected to use one of the most advanced third generation technologies at 10 of its new nuclear reactors, state media reported, citing a government official. Supplied by US-based Westinghouse, the AP1000 reactors are considered to be safer than current technology used in mainland reactors and have a longer operational lifespan. The AP1000 technology will be used on China’s first batch of inland nuclear power plants at six reactors at plants in Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi provinces, as well as Sanmen in Zhejiang and Haiyang in Shandong. The unnamed official said the AP1000 reactors will be used for future inland projects and the government is considering the technology as a benchmark standard.
