Jiayuguan City has an unique tourist attraction nearby China travel — gliding at nearby Juquan. This is considered one of the three best gliding spots in the world. This is because the rising air currents gives Juquan unique natural conditions which are very favorable to gliding.
Jiayuguan City is a small township located in the Gobi desert, at the middle of the Hexi Corridor, 600 kilometers from Lanzhou.
In 1372, during the Ming Dynasty, a fortress was built to protect the last frontier of the Chinese empire. Located about six kilometers southwest of Jiangyuguan City is what is accepted as the western starting point of a section of the Great Wall.
Among the passes on the Great Wall, Jiayuguan is the most intact surviving ancient military building. Thus the area is full of history and worth visiting for just that, apart from gliding opportunities.
Juquan glider base is about two kilometers from Jiayuguan and covers an area of 100 acres. It has ten gliders including two Yang Jin-day Tartu models and a two-seater Romania 28. There is a professional flight team to handle the gliders.
