China Unicom to spend $13bn on 4G this year

China Unicom (CHU.NYSE, 0762.HKG) said on Thursday that it plans capital expenditure of US$13 billion this year to support its high-speed 4G network, South China Morning Post reported. The company, China’s second-largest mobile operator by subscribers, will launch 4G services next month and aims to extend coverage to more than 300 cities by the end of the year. China Unicom announced the plans after posting a 46.7% rise in net profit to US$1.69 billion last year. Its mobile subscribers increased 17.4% to exceed 280 million by the end of last year, with 41.7 million new users.
