China urges cooperation with US, G20 on economy

China’s foreign minister Yang Jiechi said China is ready to cooperate with the US and other nations in order to fix the slumping global economy, the Wall Street Journal reported. "We’re willing to work with the United States and other countries to cross the river in the same boat through the stormy waters," Yang told reporters in Beijing on Saturday. Yang confirmed that President Hu Jintao will meet US President Barack Obama for the first time at the meeting of the Group of 20 (G20) in London next month, and said that relations between the Obama administration and China were off to "a good start." US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner drew fire in January for claiming that China was manipulating its currency.
