China expects a December 6 meeting of officials from the US, Japan and South Korea to help ease tensions and promote dialogue on the Korean peninsula, Bloomberg reported, citing a statement from Jiang Yu, spokeswoman of China’s foreign ministry. The US State Department said the meeting of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, South Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung Hwan and Japanese Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara shows the countries’ "commitment to security on the Korean peninsula and stability in the region." Jiang also said China hopes the countries will give "positive consideration" to its proposal to hold emergency six-party talks in Beijing this month to address increasing military tensions following North Korea’s artillery attack last week on a South Korean island.
