The US and China held cabinet-level trade talks in California yesterday amid tensions over China’s export surplus, a WTO auto parts dispute and deteriorating global financial markets, AFP reported. US Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez and US Trade Representative Susan Schwab hosted Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan at the Richard Nixon presidential library in Yorba Linda, California for the one-day meeting. Schwab told reporters afterwards that the discussions had covered agricultural products, food safety and trade barriers. Gutierrez added that the officials had "very open, candid meetings."
